Biography
Wu Zhao is an empress consort and empress dowager of the Tang dynasty and later the empress regnant of the Zhou dynasty.
Early Life
Wu Zhao is the second daughter and fourth child of the official Wu Shiyue.
In her youth, her father encourages her to pursue education and she becomes well-versed in politics, literature and music. Impressed by her rare intelligence, the emperor Li Shimin takes her as a concubine and creates her as Talented Lady.
She is permitted to continue her pursuit of education within the palace, although she isn't favoured by Li Shimin.
