AN ANTIQUE expert yesterday told how he took his eye for an heirloom across the Atlantic to become a TV star.
Alasdair Nichol, from Edinburgh, is now an appraiser on the top-rated US version of Antiques Roadshow.
He has told one stunned owner her painting was worth half a million dollars and delivered bad news to another that a picture which was insured for $100,000 was a just a worthless copy.
Alasdair, 52, moved to America to take up a job as vice-chairman at Freeman’s Auctioneers, one of the oldest auction houses in the country.
He was recommended for the popular PBS Antiques Roadshow programme a year later.
The dad-of three said: “I was attracted to America, especially New York.
If you work in art, New York is the capital of the art world. It’s so diverse.
“Being on TV was never on my radar but it’s been a nice bonus and allowed me to travel to interesting places acr
